Just a small collection of various comments from people on their experience with PayPal, some are short stories, they reveal a lot about how PayPal treats people.

I always use Paypal as a “Pay-Pal.” I only make small transactions and never hold more than $100 on it because I know they might try and freeze my account. I’m sorry this happened to you
I also use it only as escrow agent or trustee for my credit card details.
Everything else would be just stupid, given their history and various accounts of disgruntled users.
Do. Not. Leave. Money. In. Things. That. Are. Not. Banks.
I never use paypal, they seem way too shady for my liking. I use pre-paid cards, they seem much more reliable and simple to use. Paypal dicked me over in the past so I’ve avoided them like the plague.
Up until very recently, if you wanted to pay for something online using PayPal but paying with a credit card in my country (Portugal), you had to register an account with them. I currently have 60$ frozen on my pp account (for buying bitcoins, which I wasn’t aware it was so much against their policy that you’re never allowed to use PayPal again and can’t withdraw your funds for 6 months) and no way of paying for something that requires PayPal to checkout, as they can immediately stop any payments I try to make when a new account (that I’m forced to make) is registered under my IP address. It’s bullshit. As someone who uses several other payment methods/platforms, PayPal is by far one of the worst right now. They just built a huge client base back then for being one of the first ones to do it, and that’s the only thing still keeping them in business.
Except they can still syphon funds from a linked bank account whenever they want.
I really should get around to opening a separate account just for PayPal usage.
PayPal has always given me nothing but problems. I remember them holding around $4000 when I started selling tshirts (money I needed for printing/shipping), and you can never get in contact with anyone helpful.
I can’t imagine trusting them with tens of thousands of dollars like that.
What a perfect scam; freeze your funds and then offer you a loan that pays them interest! Brilliant! I’m pretty sure paypal is run by none other than Dr. Evil.
I still don’t understand why people continue to do business with PayPal. They want all of the power of a bank, with none of the oversight.
As this seems to be an active little goldmine of PayPal horror stories, he’s my current predicament.
I sold some smoke detectors over PayPal, not eBay, direct through PayPal. The bill was a thousand pounds… Within six minutes of receiving the goods the buyer raised a Not as Described claim and tried to get his money back. PayPal asked for proof of what the issue was, and he apparently provided it. I have been told to refund him when he sends the kit back, I have not been asked for any input in this whatsoever.
I know he’s going to send back a box of shit, it’ll be any old crap, but at long as it’s signed for, he gets refunded. From what I gather I have no way of even appealing this decision.
I have been throughly ripped off. This is my first taste of the bad side of PayPal and it’s a massive hit.
I’m considering court action already to be honest.
Has anyone ever heard anything good about Paypal in the entire history of the Company?
scammers love PayPal.
I’ve lost a good Linux Server with amazing specs for dirt cheap and an amazing ddos protection that actually works….FOR FREE (the ddos part)
I had my account frozen once for a weeks and ended up losing my server (1 out of 2) and paypal was nice via phone & helped me.
But just the fact i lost a good server ticked me off.
On top of that they provide NO PROTECTION against abusers who pay for services that are provided online & not physical product or delivery to address and the scammer or asshole can request back it’s money by raising the level of issue, or opening a issue ticket.
If you aren’t careful, not only will you lose the money morally entitled to you, and a huge fee on top of the money you’ve lost. Now imagine getting donations from friends to help fund server and making money from online services and waking up the next day from $150.00 balance to negitive -200 because of the fee per issue. They claim this fee is due to the fee they pay when some paypal customer, the asshole or scammer, disputes a legit payment.
Even after supplying IP, Discussions, EVEN A FUCKING ADDRESS of the same person trying to scam me will NOT help.
I need paypal, i still have paypal, but I don’t trust paypal. Not even if they gifted me $10,000 for free….worried that i would get a 100K fee just because they can… it’s pathetic.
I’ve got a Paypal case on my account where I spent £28.38 GBP on a digital item back in June 2013. I never received it, opened a Paypal case, provided a ton of information. The seller responds a few hours before the case would close automatically in may favour just saying it wasn’t a physical item and Paypal sides with him. I appeal it but it gets closed near instantly.
My argument in the appeal was that if Paypal doesn’t support the sale of digital items how can someone with a verified Paypal account use them as a payment gateway for the transaction.
It didn’t sound so much like a conspiracy theory I’d be convinced the guy knew someone in Paypal’s customer service and support team.
Huh? That’s weird, I’m a vendor of digital goods myself and all cases I’ve had against me went in the favor of the buyer – to the point of me not bothering to argue anymore. All items are just $9 so I instantly accept the claim even though I know I’m right at this point.
I’ve provided screenshot of emails, database records and all kind of digital evidence but I don’t think PayPal as much as looks at it.
I don’t even sell on eBay anymore for this reason. People win the auction and feel like they paid too much. So they file a PayPal claim and you get screwed.
I sold an antique Jensen speaker to some guy who barely spoke English. He asked me to cover the speaker cone with stiff cardboard which I did (and had it braced and padded with foam). He held off paying until an hour before I could file a claim. A few days later he claims it was damaged. I asked for some photos of the damage but he filed a claim instead. PayPal freezes my money and then asks me for details. A week goes by and they claim its my fault and he is sending the speaker back and they refund his money. A month goes by and I never get the speaker. PayPal then changes their mind and gives the money to me again. I have no idea what happened but his shipping address looks like a ghetto liquor store in New Jersey.
I stopped using PayPal a few months ago. I sent $50 to a friend for a car part and I checked my bank account to make sure I had the $50. I did. Two weeks later my bank account is missing another $50, what the hell? I found out PayPal charged my account again and said that they would refund it. They never did and I had to contact my bank to refund me that money. Fuck PayPal, they pissed me off.
A friend of myn does high valued virtual item trading for a game we play together. (Basically he buys and sells virtual goods) He had a lot of reputation and he was well trusted in the community. So one day he was buying a few hundred with of items using his paypal account. The trade goes thru, my friend gets him items and the other guy gets his cash. My friend leaves his house and comes back to the guy he traded with cussing him out in chat. Apparently a chargeback was issued, and the guy thought my friend scammed him. My friend checks his paypal and finds out this happened to all transactions that had been made in a 3 month period. (A lot of fucking money) We call paypal and they say the account and all the cash is on hold because the account is suspicions. Meanwhile my friend is contacted by 30+ people he traded within the past saying he did a chargeback on him. He tries to explain what happened but no one believes him. His reputation goes down the shitter, and now he is a marked scammer in the game. Basically 3+ years of trust on the account was destroyed by paypal. So we call paypal again, and they say all the cash is on hold for 180 days. To my friend his reputation is more important than the cash so he planned to pay everyone back after he gets the cash unfrozen. A lot of people still think he is a scammer, and if he cash the funds i am sure he would have played each person back despite paypal having his cash. (He did consider this, but he told me he would have had to sell his car go get enough cash to pay everyone back). So 180 days pass, he gets his cash and is able to pay everyone back. Sadly despite this he is still marked a scammer due to the chargeback causing a lot of other users he traded with to have -$ in their accounts. (Including me)
TLDR Paypal destroyed my friend’s virtual item trading reputation when they forced a chargeback and froze his account. Caused a lot of people he traded with to have -$ in their accounts. Friend payed them all back after the cash was unfrozen 180 days later but never got his reputation back.
PayPal is shit. I sold an item on eBay and the buyer wanted a refund. He supposedly shipped the item back and added a tracking number, I received an empty box. I called eBay and they said it was on PayPal to fix this. I called PayPal and they told me to contact my local police station and that the money had already been withdrawn from by bank.
They do not give a single shit about you
This exact same thing happened to me back in 2009 when I use to sell through eBay! The worst thing is that Paypal made me lose +10hrs of phone calls, gathering information to show them I will not commit any fraud, and they still did not release the 12k€ in my account… Since that day I stopped using paypal as a payment method. It does protect buyers, but it abuses sellers in an irrational way…
Had my brother sell Lollapalooza tix via Craigslist as I was out of state and wouldn’t be able to attend. The buyer opted to pay with Paypal. I wanted cash, but didn’t really mind until I tried to pull the funds from Paypal. They held the funds and I was only able to pull 25% per week. WTF?
I have an online business, PayPal closed my account and held my funds for 6 months. I was not trusting enough to hold all my money in it (I transferred it to the bank weekly) but it hurt.
It forced me to go to a credit card based system. My business has grown leaps and bounds and the paypal debacle was the best thing that every happened to us.
This story happens time after time after time.
I lost several thousand £ to paypals scams. I used to run a popular forum and people used to pay for premium accounts on there to support it, get extra features, badges, etc. One day paypal froze all the money in the account for “selling adult materials” – there were some adult jokes, images, etc on the forums. They said they would release the money in six months but when I tried to log in after that time I just got “server errors” – this went on for months, nobody would help me on the phone and eventually I got past the point where it was worth my while to pursue the issue so they got to keep my money and the forum died.
Their first mistake was using pay pal. Those guys will still ass rape you with fees on the best of days, and steal your money right out of your account on the worst.
